Speaker Karen Bass officially announced her campaign to run for the Congressional seat of California's 33rd District. Flanked by representatives from a diverse cross-section of the district, Speaker Bass addressed the gathered crowd and promised to "change what isn't working, bring people together, and deliver results." Venerated Congresswoman Diane E. Watson, who has respresented the 33rd District since 2001, gave an enthusiastic endoresement of Speaker Bass as her successor saying, "I endorse her 300%!" while others in attendance, including representatives from the labor community, community organizers, and distinguished Supervisor Mark Ridley Thomas, spoke of the difference that she has made in their lives. From working towards improvements in the foster care system, to her deep ties to the community, to her tireless efforts that saved the Health Families Program which allowed over 600,000 California children to keep their health insurance, Speaker Karen Bass has been a force for transformative change for over twenty years.
