On April 7th, Speaker Emeritus Karen Bass received the enthusiastic endorsement of the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) of California. Comprised of over 700,000 members, SEIU's ranks include janitors, social workers, governement employees, and healthcare workers among others. Both leadership and members spoke of their deep resepect for the Speaker Emeritus' career. Shaneisha Robinson, an in-home caregiver and SEIU member summarized the feelings in the room when she said, "Speaker Bass has fought hard for the work we do and the low-income seniors and disabled we care for by taking a program that was slated for complete elimination and keeping it alive."
