Bass Earns Congresswoman Waters’ Endorsement

WASHINGTON DC - Less than two weeks after launching her campaign to represent California’s 33rd Congressional District, Assembly Speaker Emeritus Karen Bass (D-Los Angeles) today announced that she has secured Congresswoman Maxine Waters’ endorsement.
“I am endorsing Karen Bass to succeed Congresswoman Diane Watson for the 33rd Congressional district because she has paid her dues and earned her strips,” said Waters. “She will be a great asset to the CA delegation and the people of the 33rd district. She has served with distinction in the Assembly and I look forward to working with her in Congress as we tackle the tough issues of healthcare reform, job creation, education and financial regulatory reforms.”
“For the past several decades, Congresswoman Waters has been a staunch advocate for women, children, people of color and those in underserved communities,” said Bass. “I worked with the Congresswoman in the 1980’s and I have always had tremendous respect for her relentless tenacity to fight for issues of importance to the community I am humbled and honored to have her endorsement.”
Congresswoman Waters is one of the most effective women in American politics today and she has tackled difficult and often controversial issues. Prior to her election to the House of Representatives in 1990, Congresswoman Waters she served in the California State Assembly.
Bass made history when the California Assembly elected her to be its 67th Speaker in 2008, catapulting her to become the first African American woman in the country to serve in this powerful state legislative role. Throughout her career, Bass has been delivering change and delivering results to her constituents in Los Angeles and the people of California by jumpstarting infrastructure projects to create new jobs in the state. Bass has also championed efforts to provide quality healthcare to Californians and expand opportunities for California’s youth.
