LOS ANGELES – Speaker Emeritus Karen Bass (D-Los Angeles) officially opened her 33rd Congressional District campaign headquarters on Sunday surrounded by a crowd of supporters and volunteers as well as business and community leaders.
“I am so pleased to be here, right in the heart of the 33rd district,” said Bass during an address to volunteers at her mid-Wilshire campaign office. “It is very important to me to reach out to as many constituents as I can, and opening this office today helps achieve that. I’m running for Congress because I believe the experience I have -- working for change and delivering results -- can help us meet the challenges ahead. I will work and fight for each and every one of you.”
During her tenure as Speaker, Bass was able to deliver bipartisan results such as protecting 600,000 children from losing their health care, restoring the governor’s cuts to domestic violence programs and helping Californians be eligible for continued federal unemployment benefits. She even took savings from the Assembly’s budget and gave them to help speed unemployment claims in the state.
In addition to Watson, Bass has been officially endorsed by Senator Dianne Feinstein, Congresswoman Maxine Waters, Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, City Controller Wendy Greuel and other elected officials and organizations including EMILY’s list.
