She was a community organizer on the streets of South Los Angeles, a nurse in the NICU, and a frontline caregiver in the LA County hospital emergency room.</strong></span><strong><br></strong></h4><p><span style="color: var(--color-text); text-decoration-color: var(--color-text);">So, it's no surprise that she took on and started solving the big challenges past mayors avoided — changing Los Angeles by bringing homelessness down, making LA safer, and building more housing after so many years of City Hall failure.</span><br></p><p>Karen Bass is the first woman ever elected to lead the city. Before taking office, she represented Los Angeles in Congress and served as Speaker of the California State Assembly — the first Black woman in U.S. history to lead a state legislative body.<br></p><p>Starting when she was only 10 years old, she marched with her parents alongside Dolores Huerta during the Delano grape strike. I don’t take the easy way. That’s who I am, and it’s how I’ve led every single day.<br></h4><p>After decades of inaction, we have a long way to go, but in just three years, we’ve created change and turned things around. Street homelessness is down for the first time in modern memory. Crime has fallen, with homicide levels lower than they've been since the 1960s. We’re accelerating nearly 40,000 units of housing after decades of under-building. And we’ve launched LA’s first-ever infrastructure plan to fix the sidewalks, streets, and streetlights that were neglected for far too long.<br></p><p>But we’re not done changing Los Angeles. I’m running for a second term because the foundation is laid, and now we can build the city we all deserve — a city where our kids no longer dodge tents on their walk to school. Where hardworking people can afford to live. Where restaurants, soundstages, and downtowns are thriving again. Where every neighborhood reflects the dynamism, the culture, and the spirit of Los Angeles.<br></p><p><strong>I’m not running for another office&nbsp;after this.
