About Karen Bass

<h3>Karen Bass’s roots in LA go deeper than politics. She was a community organizer on the streets of South Los Angeles, a nurse in the NICU, and a frontline caregiver in the LA County hospital emergency room. </h3>So, it's no surprise that she took on and started solving the big challenges past mayors avoided — changing Los Angeles by bringing homelessness down, making LA safer, and building more housing after so many years of City Hall failure. Karen Bass is the first woman ever elected to lead the city. Before taking office, she represented Los Angeles in Congress and served as Speaker of the California State Assembly — the first Black woman in U.S. history to lead a state legislative body. Starting when she was only 10 years old, she marched with her parents alongside Dolores Huerta during the Delano grape strike. She has spent her life in the trenches — not in the spotlight. Real life shapes how she governs: hands-on, urgent, and focused on the change Angelenos want to see when they open their doors and go to work every day.

Spencer Pratt has been able to solidify the MAGA vote bloc behind his candidacy and is a strong contender for the second spot.Even though Nithya Raman has been on the city council for the last six years, and chaired the City Council’s Homeless Committee for three years, the Raman campaign has not solidified her base and will have difficulty making it into the runoff when voters learn more about her record.

<h2 style="text-align: center;">Why I'm Running </h2><h3>I ran for Mayor to change Los Angeles — to tackle the longstanding challenges that past leaders avoided because the fights were too hard and the politics were too risky. I don’t take the easy way. That’s who I am, and it’s how I’ve led every single day. </h3>After decades of inaction, we have a long way to go, but in just three years, we’ve created change and turned things around. Street homelessness is down for the first time in modern memory. Crime has fallen, with homicide levels lower than they've been since the 1960s. We’re accelerating nearly 40,000 units of housing after decades of under-building. And we’ve launched LA’s first-ever infrastructure plan to fix the sidewalks, streets, and streetlights that were neglected for far too long. But we’re not done changing Los Angeles. I’m running for a second term because the foundation is laid, and now we can build the city we all deserve — a city where our kids no longer dodge tents on their walk to school. Where hardworking people can afford to live. Where restaurants, soundstages, and downtowns are thriving again. Where every neighborhood reflects the dynamism, the culture, and the spirit of Los Angeles. I’m not running for another office&nbsp;after this. I’m running to change Los Angeles.
